Rainie Yang Wins 'Best Actress' At the 45th Golden Bell Awards

After Ariel Lin won "Best Actress" with idol drama "They Kiss Again" at the Golden Bell Awards (Taiwanese Emmy) in 2008, another idol, Rainie Yang, was crowned "Best Actress" with idol drama "Hi My Sweetheart" at yesterday's annual awards ceremony. Fellow partner in "Hi My Sweetheart" Show Luo is nominated "Best Actor," but lost to teen actor Wu Cheng Di.

Rainie and Amber Kuo are actually the judges' favorites, but judges believe Ranie had a bigger transformation compared to her usual cute, good girl image (she plays an emo loner in "Hi My Sweetheart"). As for this unexpected honor, Rainie was very nervous and excited at the same time when her name was called. She couldn't say anything at one moment, as she didn't even prepare her thank you speech. "It really is hard to win with idol dramas, hope judges can pay more attention to idol dramas in the future," she said with tears.

This year is the 10th year the 26-year-old is in the showbiz. Besides winning a Golden Bell award, she will hold a concert soon. "I received many gifts this year!," she said. She feels very proud to win with an idol drama, but also feel it's a pity that Show didn't win. "Maybe because I wasn't good enough. We helped each other out. It's a good competition though," she sighed.

In addition, this year's "Best Actor" winner Wu Cheng Di actually won over his competitors with more than half of the votes. Judges point out Show in "Hi My Sweetheart" features his romantic side; Wu depicts realism; veteran actor Chang Chen Guang has a different performance than before; James Wen's acting is between romance and realism. In the end, Wu is picked as the winner for his fresh and burden-less performance.

Chris Lai "a small potato" with great wisdom

In TVB series Every Move You Make, audiences' the main focus is on the mind reading "Yiu Sir" Bowie Lam or the crime investigations. But how many people noticed the impulsive "Chow Fun" Bosco Wong or "Ah Hei" Chris Lai? In the character introductions, Ah Hei is only described to have mediocre intelligence and is a flatterer. Chris is responsible to make the most of this "small potato".

Chris entered the industry in 2003, he was once one of the 'heavily promoted' young stars alongside Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong and Ron Ng. But, he had little luck and lack of opportunities, so his roles do not leave a deep impression. Receiving the script for Every Move You Make, Chris makes a strong effort in portraying the "80s after" younger generation role: "I paid attention to the young people around me, how they usually talk or sit. They don't pay attention to how their words comes out, like for example "Yes lor", "Like this lor" and they don't sit properly on the seat, they have to lean or lay on the seat. When portraying this role, I added these little movements and the catchphrases, to make the character more three dimensional."

Chris claims that the "80s after" generation are "little kids", but in fact he is born in 1980 and is considered part of the 80s after generation. "I am not like them. I have suffered from being poor before, I only played with my neighbor by running up to the mountain. Because my dad was ill, he passed away early in my life, my mom had it difficult. If my brother and I wanted to buy something, we have to work part-time. Besides tutoring, I have also worked in the supermarket."

Esther Kwan cooks with her daughter for family fun

Yesterday Esther Kwan attended a Quaker Oat promotion as their spokesperson. The promotion is focused on informing the public that the product can help reduce cholesterol. It turns out that Esther only started to learn cooking after she became the spokesperson. She said: "Before if I wasn't filming, then I was taking care of my daughter, I had no time. Esther Kwan pregnant again, smiles & does not respond

Esther Kwan Jumps to Deny Pregnancy Rumors

Putting on some extra pounds doesn't necessary mean someone is pregnant. Actress Esther Kwan is rumored pregnant again after photographed appearing chubbier than before. Yesterday she attended to a skincare event and denied she is pregnant. She even jumped several times as a proof. "I'm not pregnant, just get chubbier because life is pretty relaxing, and I don't want to go on a diet, it's still pretty with some extra pounds," she said.

She expressed she and husband Nick Cheung also want to have another child, but will let it be. "If it's fated, then our wish would be granted no matter what. But if it's fated for us to have only one child, we are still happy."

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) Actress Mugdha Godse admits she wouldn't mind doing an item number.
"I wouldn't mind doing an item song. It totally depends upon if I like it or not. If I like, I wouldn't mind doing it," Mugdha told IANS.
Sporting a blue dress, Mugdha was present at the Fiama Di Wills lounge at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) for a makeover from hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani.
Mugdha made her Bollywood debut with Madhur Bhandarkar's "Fashion" and later went on to do films like "All The Best", "Jail" and most recently horror film "Help". Her upcoming release is romantic comedy "Will You Marry Me?".
She has no plans to settle down anytime soon.
Asked when she plans to tie the knot, she said: "Right now I am married to my work. Whenever I decide to settle down, I'll let everybody know," she added.

18 JANUARY 2010 As the second highest grossing film of all time, big things were expected of James Cameron's Avatar at Sunday's Golden Globe awards.

And it didn't disappoint. The sci-fi epic was named best film drama at the ceremony, beating off competition from Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and George Clooney's latest venture, Up In The Air, which had received the most nominations.

It also secured the best director award, leading film maker James to tell the star-studded audience: "This is the best job in the world, it really is."

The evening – in no way dampened by the inclement weather - saw many of Hollywood's biggest stars honoured, including Oscar-winner Meryl Streep.

She won the top actress in a comedy gong for her turn in Julie & Julia, in which she stars as famed American chef Julia Child.

Accepting her award she modestly commented: "In my long career I've played so many extraordinary women I'm being mistaken for one."

Robert Downey Jr picked up the best comedy actor for Sherlock Holmes, receiving laughter when he quipped: "First of all I'd like to thank Susan Downey for telling me that Matt Damon was going to win so don’t bother to prepare a speech."

Sandra Bullock earned the title of best film actress for her drama The Blind Side, and Jeff Bridges was named best dramatic actor for his role as a down-and-out singer in Crazy Heart.

The 60-year-old star, who has been nominated a number of times but has never won, received a standing ovation but quickly begged the crowd to sit back down.

"You're really screwing up my underappreciated status," he joked.

Dexter actor Michael C Hall – who recently revealed he is being treated for Hodgkin's lymphoma – was named best TV actor for his portrayal of the serial killer with ethics.

And Martin Scorsese was presented with a lifetime achievement award by Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro.

While the evening was hosted by top English comedian Ricky Gervais, the British contingent, including Emily Blunt, Helen Mirren and newcomer Carey Mulligan, failed to pick up any big awards.

But that didn’t stop them bringing extra glamour to the event on the red carpet.

The countdown to this year's Oscars has officially begun, with the announcement of the 2010 nominees.

Anne Hathaway helped name this year's contenders, which include a crop of UK names.

Flying the flag for Britain in the best actor category is Colin Firth for A Single Man. He will go up against Jeff Bridges for a Crazy Heart, George Clooney for his part in Up in the Air, Morgan Freeman for Invictus and Jeremy Renner, for his role in The Hurt Locker.

Meanwhile up for the best actress gong is rising British star Carey Mulligan, for her part in An Education. She's up against veteran actress Helen Mirren, who appeared in The Last Station and US actresses Sandra Bullock - nominated for The Blind Side - newcomer Gabourey Sidibe for Precious and Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia.

Competing for the best supporting actor award are Woody Harrelson for his part as a US army officer in The Messenger, Stanley Tucci for The Lovely Bones and Christoph Waltz for his chilling turn in Inglourious Basterds. The Canadian name on the list is The Last Station's Christopher Plummer, for his role as Tolstoy.

In the last of the main acting categories, supporting actress, the five nominees are: Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick - both for their performances in Up in the Air, comic Mo'Nique for her role in Precious, Maggie Gyllenhall for Crazy Heart and Penelope Cruz for Nine.
James Cameron's sci-fi adventure Avatar and Quentin Tarantino's war epic Inglorious Basterds are both up for the coveted best picture Academy Award.

Other titles put forward in this category – which this year has been broadened from five to ten - include: District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, The Blind Side, Precious, A Serious Man, Up and Up in the Air.

Vidya Balan is Rajnikanth’s new heroine…

The most happening buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Vidya Balan is set to act opposite the south mega star, Rajinikanth in the film Hara.
According to sources, the filmmakers have selected Vidya for the lead female role opposite Rajinikanth. but when contacted Vidya said that she hasn’t received any formal message from the production side as such.
Rumours have it that the actress is reluctant to do South films, but that’s not the case at all. She is very much interested in doing any big film. And who would want to lose an opportunity to work with the 60-year-old superstar after his latest flick broke all records at the box office.

Looks like Action Replayy star Akshay Kumar is in full retro mood.He along with Neha Dupia plugged their film on KBC 4 at Filmcity in Goregaon, Mumbai on Monday, October 25, without the leading lady Aishwarya Rai.
Also present at the event was director Vipul Shah.
Akshay Kumar carried off his retro look with aplomb – Silver gray flared pants, gray and red plaid coat, white turtle neck sweat shirt, and white rimmed oversized sunglasses.
These days, Akshay is juggling between multiple commitments: TV reality show Master Show; his first Hollywood production Breakaway, in which he also makes a cameo appearance as himself; and Action Replayy promotions.
Action Replayy is due in theaters on November 5.

'Road Movie first Hindi film to go to Tribeca: Abhay Deol

New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) Having already traversed the world festival circuit in places such as Berlin, Tokyo, Toronto and Doha, Abhay Deol's "Road, Movie" has been selected for the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The movie is the first Hindi movie to go to the fest, said the actor.
"The New York Times has confirmed that we are also in for the Tribeca Film Festival, New York. It's the first Hindi movie to be selected there," said Abhay.
"Of all the movies, it's the first time that a foreign film has been selected there," said producer Susan B.Landau.
Co-produced by Ross Katz and Landau, the 95-minute Indo-American film has been directed by Dev Benegal. It also stars Tannishtha Chatterjee, Satish Kaushik and debutant Mohammed Faizal Usmani.
Abhay and Landau were in the capital Thursday evening with Usmani to promote the film at the PVR Anupam, Saket. The meet was followed by a special screening of the movie for underprivileged kids organised by the Salaam Balak Trust.
Founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in response to the Sep 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre, the annual New York festival begins April 21 and will run until May 2.

It is difficult to find trustworthy staff Hema Malini

Mumbai, March 4 (IANS) The man behind last weekend's theft in actress-politician Hema Malini's house here has turned out to be a member of her staff. It's difficult to find trustworthy staff, she rues.
"It's very worrisome. But we can't seem to find the staff we can trust," Hema, who spent Holi dealing with the police, told IANS.
"The security guard at our Goregaon residence was caught sleeping when the burglary happened. At the same time, we've to depend on security and domestic staff. But how do we make sure they're to be trusted?"
The high drama began at Hema Malini's Goregaon bungalow on Saturday night when approximately Rs.8 million worth goods were stolen. Most of the stolen goods were gold ornaments.
By Tuesday morning the cops were expected to retrieve the entire loot from the man arrested. However till Wednesday morning Hema had not got back the stolen valuables.
Hema was pretty sure, though that the ornaments would be retrieved since the alleged culprit had been apprehended.
Hema was not in town when the incident took place. The nightmare began when Hema landed in Mumbai Sunday morning after a show.
"We're right now in the middle of shifting from our Goregaon residence to our Juhu bungalow. That's how it has been for a year now. While our Juhu residence gets fully renovated, we're shuttling between two homes."
On Saturday the Goregaon residence was locked.
"Esha and Ahana were in the Juhu residence. My cousin Prabha, who stays in Goregaon was with me dancing on stage at Nagpur. Our show went very well. And we returned happily, not knowing the shock that waited for us.
"The minute we landed in Mumbai on Sunday morning, my cousin called to say we should immediately head from the airport to Goregaon instead of our Juhu residence. When I reached my Goregaon residence the whole place was ransacked. Locks in the rooms and cupboards including mine had been broken."
Sounding tired but calm Hema said: "This is the first time in our entire life that we ladies have been so invaded by intruders. I've spent all my life in households run by women. First, it was my mother and me. Then it's been me and my two daughters.
"The world was out playing Holi while I had my home swamped with cops. But it's okay. The investigation has been very efficient. I'm very happy with the cops."
The question of safety for women who stay alone crops up and Hema sighs: "I do miss a male presence in the house at a time like this. Looking into a police matter was not the way I wanted to spend my Holi."

Kings XI Punjab has strong will to win IPL 3 Preity Zinta

New Delhi, March 11 (IANS) Preity Zinta, co-owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, Thursday said her team has "strong will" and "enough fire" to win the third edition of the T-20 tournament that begins Friday.
"We have a very talented side and we have strong will to go and win the tournament," Preity said here.
"Last time we had seven injured players which no one could help. I believe an IPL team is judged by the strength of strong domestic players and not the international players. We have three-four new domestic players and I hope they will strengthen the base," she added.
Preity was here to participate in a health event organised by UNAIDS.
Yuvraj Singh led Preity's team in first two editions of IPL matches but this time Sri Lankan all-rounder Kumar Sangakkara is set to lead Kings XI Punjab.
Asked about the change in captaincy, she said: "Many IPL teams are re-shuffling in batting, bowling and other departments. Sangakkara is a talented man (to lead the team)."
"But Yuvraj is our most valuable player. In our team, I want to say, there is no place for 'I'. It's 'we'. We as a team will win or lose."

Arbaaz gifts Malaika an expensive paid vacation

After the success of ‘Dabangg’, Arbaaz Khan is on gifting spree. First, he gift Salman Khan a Range Rover and director Abhinav Kashyap an SUV and now he has gifted his wife Malaika Arora Khan an all-expense-paid holiday in Koh Samui in Thailand, along with her family and friends.
Says Malaika, "It's sweet and thoughtful of Arbaaz to gift me a vacation on my birthday (October 23) for my friends and family (her parents and sister Amrita Arora Ladhak and Amu's husband Shakeel will accompany them). Initially, it was supposed to be just him, our son Arhaan and me, but our close friend Vikram Phadnis's birthday also falls on my birthday so we decided to celebrate it together. There will be 17 of us and it will be a four-day holiday."
Malaika loves water sports and she is looking forward to it. "I love water sports. I am a very adventurous gal who does everything from deep sea diving to bungee jumping and jet skiing."
To capture the moments, Arbaaz Khan has even gifted his wife an expensive camera.
After this expensive vacation, Arbaaz with his family will be traveling to New York to enjoy Diwali.

Ashmit kisses Sara in front of all

Ashmit Patel and Sara Khan's love story is growing stronger with every passing day. It is no more a hidden truth now. Everyone in the house is aware of their new love story. Begum evicted from Bigg Boss

The third eviction of Bigg Boss is the Pakistani contestant Ali Saleem, better known as Begum Nawazish Ali. He was directly nominated by Sakshi Pradhan who was evicted last Friday. Before leaving the house, Bigg Boss asked her to name a person whom she wanted to see in the nomination list next Friday and she has named Begum.
Sakshi named Begum because Begum nominated her. While staying in the house, Begum was very friendly to all the housemates. She openly speaks her heart and expressed her opinion freely and protests against injustice.
Along with Begum, two more people were in the nomination list this time, Veena Malik and Shweta Tiwari. Shiv Sena protested against the participation of Pakistani celebrity on the show and Begum’s eviction comes as a great relief from them.

Some even have said that Mallika "Upstaged Angelina"!

Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta have finally met in Berlin, and how! Recently, Priyanka Chopra, the hot sexy gal of B town, touched Berlin and landed bang on to the sets of Ritesh Sidhwani’s ‘Don 2’,directed by Farhan Akhtar, where the rest of the cast and crew had already assembled much before.
Reportedly, the two hotties, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta hardly could be called friends at the moment, as the fact is that as Priyanka walked in to the sets of the film, both of them just barely managed to exchange a thin line, that could be given an award for the frostiest smiles ever, and then Priyanka moved on to gel with the other members of the cast and crew, and greeted Shahrukh Khan with the friendliest warmest greeting!
Well, so to speak, Lara had reached Berlin, where the shoot is taking place a week before and thus she seemed quite comfortable with the members of the film unit, however, Priyanka, who had to stay back in Mumbai due to an ad shoot, was a tad bit late in joining them.

MUNNABHAI AKA SANJAY DUTT & PRABODH DAVKHARE OF HEALTHWORKS GYM TO LAUNCH NEW GYM IN BANDRA IN MUMBAI

Munnabhai aka Sanju baba aka Sanjay Dutt dropped a bombshell on Saturday when at a very select press meet at the Healthworks Gym at Thane, he said that he was considering launching a series of fitness clubs and gyms along with ‘good friend’ and fitness freak Prabodh Davkhare.

Sanjay even went steps ahead and said that if Prabhod Davkhare found it right, he would love to be the brand ambassador for the brand of gyms and fitness clubs. ‘Prabodh Davkhare is a good friend and I have always told him to push his efforts even further. I would love to be the brand ambassasdor of his gyms if Prabodh finds me suitable for the job,” said Sanju baba modestly.

Prabodh Davkhare runs one of the most modern and sophisticated fitness clubs and gyms in Thane called Healthworks gym.  While going through the gym, Sanjay Dutt worked out for about ten minutes on the thread mill, the weights machine and even pushed some iron.  

Sources close to Prabodh Davkhare said that Sanju baba is very keen on the fitness business and the two of them have been contemplating starting a chain of fitness clubs for some time. Confirming this, Prabodh Davkhare said, ‘I would love to have Sanjay Dutt to advise my gym members and clients. Sanjay Dutt is one of the fittest Bollywood stars and is the epitome of health in the country. He has maintained his physique in spite of several ups and downs in his life. For Sanju fitness comes first.”

Munnabhai aka Sanju baba aka Sanjay Dutt  spent almost two hours at the Healthworks Gym at Thane on the outskirts of Mumbai along with promoter Probodh Davkhare on Saturday.

 Munnabhai exercised, lifted weights, pressed some iron and even watched a demonstration of Karate along with about 200 excited fitness freaks from the area. He shared tips with the staff and even demonstrated certain correct methods of lifting weights, pressing iron etc.

Sanju baba and Prabodh Davkhare later on addressed a press conference where Sanjay Dutt answered about 50 to 100 questions from the audience regarding health, fitness, right diet etc. There were about 200 fitness enthusiasts present at the venue while a crowd of about 2000 persons gathered out the Healthworks Gym to get a glimpse of their favourite superstar.

Speaking at the Press Conference, Prabhodh Davkhare praised and thanked Sanju Baba for taking time out of his busy schedule to encourage and support the youngsters. “Sanjay Dutt has been a great source of help and encouragement both personally and for the entire staff at Healthworks India, and I thank him on behalf of every member and employee at Healthworks India,” said Prabodh Davkhare.

Sanjay Dutt also praised Prabodh Davkhare for his efforts to popularise the idea and concept of fitness.

Not too long ago, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan also visited the Healthworks Gym and spent almost an hour with the crowd. Other stars who were present included Zulfi Sayed  and many other lesser known Bollywood personalities.

Both the former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and the current CM have visited the Healthworks Gym and encouraged Prabodh Davkhare and his team to spread the message of fitness across the city.

Healthworks India and Prabodh Davkhare have announced several special schemes for Government Employees, Police Officials and even students who can get maximum benefit from them and stay fit and healthy.

What You Should Expect From a Good Business Networking Seminar

Business networking seminars and workshops are big business and with so many organizations getting in on the act it's important to understand what to expect so that you don't waste your money.

Perhaps you are considering attending a business networking seminar – maybe you want to lean more about how to network effectively, maybe you want to develop your business networking skills and confidence or perhaps you see it as a great opportunity simply to network with others.

All of these are great reasons to attend a seminar and I know that whenever I have attended business networking workshops, talks or seminars I have always got something from them. However there plenty of people now who provide such training, and some are clearly less good than others, so if you have a choice think carefully what you should expect to be covered and how they are run.

If you are going to take the time out to actually travel to and attend a course you should be expecting more than a few hints and tips that you can get from a good website. The whole point of face to face to courses it that they provide the opportunity to practice business networking skills (and even better get feedback) and also to network face to face with others who too are interested in networking. So if the seminar is literally a talk with little interaction you may question whether it is worth your time and money…there is plenty here on the web. Just type in business networking advice and you will come across a whole host of useful websites.

I remember when I first attended business networking seminars there were interactive exercises right from the beginning to get us feeling relaxed, talk to the other participants and practice the skills we were being introduced to. I also remember the seminar was highly entertaining and one of its main strengths was the fact that it was being lead by a charismatic figure who knew his stuff.

So, find out about the provider of the training or seminar - what track record do they have in networking - have they run networking groups, have they built up their own business from networking and when you contact them are they demonstrating the basic skills of networking i.e. showing a genuine interest in you and what you do, or are they straight into a sales pitch…if they are I would question whether they are a credible provider of networking training.

Find out too who else will be attending the seminar. After all if you have a choice of several program all appearing to offer similar content and one stands out as being attended by a whole host of contacts who could be useful to you, then this might influence your decision.

If you a part of a larger organization there may be a number of you who need to network as part of your role so a more cost effective option may be to have an in-house program which is tailored to not only your needs as a networker but also the organization. A good tailor-made program should take into account the current skill and confidence level of you and the other participants, where you currently network and what you would want to get from the program

Running Successful Business Networking Events

Are you thinking of running your own business networking events? If you are you might want to take a step back to consider your reasons carefully so that you ensure that your events really are a success and don’t, like so many, fall at the first hurdle.

Firstly here are some reasons you might want to run your own group or event:
1. Earn an income
2. Run an event which offers something not currently available
3. Expand your own network
4. Do some thing you enjoy
5. Raise your personal profile of that of your organization

For me the reasons for running networking events were a combination of all of these and which helped me make the decision to buy a business networking franchise. And for me it was great decision - I did make a profitable business out it at the same time expanding my network of valuable business contacts and raising my personal profile in the business community.

However running your own business networking events isn’t always a bed of roses …

Whilst I considered that I made a success of running business networking groups it didn’t come without its difficulties and there are many who really do struggle to make a viable business from this industry.

Firstly like any business it requires hard work and if you are running another business in parallel you need to consider how you will balance the two. Because my primary business wasn’t fully up and running before I bought my business networking franchise and since I was the only one in my business, I found my focus shifted. I had to make a choice and chose to put all my efforts into my new venture, putting my coaching business on hold until I had the structures and processes in place to allow it to manage itself.

Many people fail to realize what does actually go into making a successful networking event and think it is as simple as inviting a few people along to a venue and expect them to mingle. But effort is required to get those people along – events like any other product or service needs to be marketed so there is good attendance by the ‘right’ people who can all benefit from each others’ attendance.

And slick organization both prior to the event and on the day, with immaculate attention to detail is vital – attendance lists, name badges, ensuring the event is fully resourced to ensure there are people available to meet and greet attendees and facilitate introductions. Attention should be given to the structure of the event - getting an appropriate balance of informal and formal networking, relevant talks and opportunities for attendees to really meet who they want to meet.

The other misconception is that running networking groups is an easy way to make quick money. Too often the costs are ignored – the costs of advertising and promoting the event, the costs of your own time in administration and marketing, the costs of the venue and refreshments and all too often the costs incurred by those saying they will attend but do not turn up.
