Disappearing Marketing Blogs, Hacked Web Sites, and More

I know it sounds incredibly odd, but it seems like a number of my colleagues, friends, and acquaintances all have been complaining about Web site issues as of late.  In fact, last week I experienced the same thing.  The reason that I was unable to make a post last week was because Google decided to ban this blog.  Okay, I know that I'm not the best writer in the world but is it really that bad?

The Google Algorithm

Google is always evaluating the quality of web sites, blogs, and online assets.  And I would argue that their algorithm is one of the best around - but it's not perfect.  That's right.  I'm not afraid to admit it.  Google can ban me if they want, but the reality is that the Internet is a lot like space, continually expanding and something you can never truly get in front of.

As the Web expands so does Google's algorithm.  But they can't necessarily predict the changes or the criteria by which to evaluate quality.  Quality is an ambiguous term.  What defines quality for one person can be largely different than the next.

Marketing Sites

A friend was recently telling me that his Web site was hacked.  He went to log on through his admin control panel (WordPress) and wasn't even able to access his dashboard.  He quickly discovered that his web site was now being redirected to a pharmaceutical promoting web site (which will go unnamed).  WordPress, Blogger, and other programs are not invulnerable and you should consider that when managing your blogs.

The motto of this story is to obviously back up your work when possible.  We take so many things for granted that it's good to remind ourselves that we're dealing with imperfect hosts, web sites, blogs, and so on.  This is one of the reasons that I talk about diversification.  Are you putting all of your eggs into a single blog?  A single web site?  Are you thinking that way when it comes to your Internet marketing?

In marketing we know that individuals need to hear messages multiple times, in different ways.  Treat your online business the same.  Don't focus all of your effort on a single campaign.  Rather, use multiple properties and multiple promotions.  Auto responders, downloads, online Webinars.  These are all great methods for reaching your target audience and building your brand.

Keep Your Marketing Expanding
One thing that I've learned in my thirteen years of marketing is to stick with what works.  I've only heard of a few situations over the years where someone tried a tactic, it didn't work, and then they tried it again and had tremendous success.  What I'm saying is that stick with what you know works and experiment with new promotions or campaigns.  If you want to try something a second time that you think you could have done better - great.  But if it doesn't work in round two, you best move on.

I think that's enough rambling for now.  The take-a-ways, protect your web sites and blogs, back up your work, and make sure your using different campaigns to drive traffic, visitors, and sales!

How To Find Marketing Resources With Social Media

I recently had the opportunity to expand my Internet marketing business and needed help with some basic programming tasks. Just like most marketing activities (copy, design, etc.), finding good people to help you succeed is always key. Due to the scope of this project, I needed to find a number of resources and find them quickly.

To my amazement, I found qualified people in just a few short days using popular social media tools for networking and background checking. Using social media, I was able to find individuals who had the experience and know-how to support my project and the growing needs of my business. I even reached out to current employees, freelancers, and industry colleagues to find individuals with the specific skills I needed.

Using oDesk, eLance, and LinkedIn, I started the search for qualified resources. As we all know, the quality of your design is directly reflected in the quality of your designers. The quality of your direct marketing campaigns - the quality and experience of your DM resources. The more work you do up front to choose the right people to support your business, the more successful you can become.

If you haven't already done so, register for popular social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and build your network of industry specific contacts. When you have a need, it's easy to reach out to your network with the details of what you need and ask for guidance. If you don't have a network of your own, join a popular "group" available in most social networks. By leveraging the experience of like minded individuals, you can quickly scale your reach and access to qualified candidates.

In addition to leveraging an existing network, you can post your open position on most social media sites as well. The recent project I referred to above required web site design and development on a php platform. I needed a very specific skill set from an experienced programmer. By posting my position with complete details, I only received inquiries from qualified individuals.

In addition to submissions from potential vendors with basic information, I asked for examples of work. In just a short time I had a handful of very qualified individuals willing and interested in doing the job. I also had everything I needed to make the right selection for the task.

I have since hired the individual I needed to complete this job and have been very pleased with the results. By leveraging my existing network and others in my chosen field through social media, I was able to locate a qualified individual for the job. By posting the specific position information, I was able to generate qualified inquiries that resulted in the right selection.

The next time you're looking for help, use social media to find what (who) you're looking for. It's easier than you might think. Use your network and post your position inside social media.

Marketing Automation The Right Way

Marketing automation is a phrase that most small and medium sized businesses don’t use all that often.  When thinking about automating your marketing functions, many things come to mind.  What functions can I automate?  What is the value of marketing automation?  What does it cost?  Where do I get started?

Having been in marketing leadership roles for over a decade and now running my own successful business, I know the value that marketing automation can bring.  At the same time, I understand the challenges and concerns with the concept of automation. 

Marketing automation is focused on lead generation with targeted marketing programs to create awareness and interest in a company's products and services.  As individuals enter a lead funnel, automation helps to nurture leads throughout the purchase decision process.

Automation of marketing is commonly used in consumer businesses that have long sales cycles as well as by companies selling to other businesses.  The great part about automating lead generation and management functions is that you can simultaneously manage multiple marketing threads with little overhead.  Said another way, Marketing Automation includes multiple areas of marketing and brings together email marketing technology with a structured sales process, usually through a CRM program.

Effective marketing automation uses tools throughout your lead management process that assist you in identifying, qualifying, and distributing warm leads to your respective sales teams.  These tools may include collateral, advertising, customer communications, and so on.  When combined properly, leads can be scored and routed appropriately, prioritizing and optimizing your marketing initiatives.

The great news about marketing automation programs are that you can use as little or as much as you need to manage your programs.  Plugins for online shopping carts like 1shopping cart, allow you to add a specific feature for affiliate marketing for example.  You can also add features to your web sites or blogs such as an auto responder.  This can help move prospects through your purchase process automatically.

The engagement has made the relationship "official", as the couple has been spotted often, publicly, but till now neither had confirmed or denied a relationship. "When I was asked if I was single, I said 'no', but beyond that refused to divulge details about my personal life. I've always said that I'd speak about my relationship only when I knew where it was headed. Mahesh was going through a divorce and he needed space to sort things out and not a complicated 'khichdi'," she reasons.

Even when Mahesh's ex-wife Svetha Jaishankar opened up to the media, insisting that Lara had been responsible for the end of her marriage, the actor maintained a dignified silence. Today, Lara says, "I met Mahesh a year after he had separated from his ex-wife. So I was not involved or responsible for their break-up. Once we started seeing each other, I knew instinctively that he was my Mr Right. But we waited, gave ourselves time to see if things would work out right and announce it properly."

So, when did epiphany strike? "I was shooting for Houseful in London, Mahesh was training non-stop. We hadn't seen each other in six weeks. When we finally met, I knew we both were in trouble," Lara laughs. When's the marriage? Not this year," she says. "Both of us are too busy. After the Davis Cup, Mahesh has the Commonwealth Games coming up." She adds, "Our families are excited. We love each other and our three dogs. Life's beautiful!"

Anyway, back to the VMA's - do not let the lack of West&Swift deter you from watching because as Eonline reports, Lindsay Lohan will make her first formal appearance on the show since her imprisonment and apparently will address her recent drama. I'm tuning in just to see what happens between host Chelsea Handler and Lohan on stage - Lindsey and her family make for some of Handler favourite topics on her late-night show, so you know sparks will fly on the night. When asked about Lohan's appearance on the show, Handler said, "That would make for a lot of material".

Khatron Ke Khiladi 3' opening TRP ratings breaks record!

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) The third season of action adventure show "Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi 3", hosted by Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra, has beaten the opening ratings of the previous two editions.

TAM media research findings say that the launch episode of the show saw a 26 percent jump in ratings over last year which were 4.4. Thanks to the show, the Colors Channel saw an increase in overall reach - from 18.4 percent last year to 19.2 percent this year.

This is the highest launch for a Bollywood star since 2008 according to the TAM Data - Week 37. The first two seasons of the show were hosted by Akshay Kumar.

"After two successful seasons of 'Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi', we are encouraged by the overwhelming viewer response to the third season. The exceptional show rating which is higher than the earlier two seasons indicates that the content and the format have been accepted well by viewers," Rajesh Kamat, chief operating officer, Colors, said in a statement.

"We have taken the show to the next level in terms of scale, credibility and delivering value to our advertising partners," he added.

The ongoing season was earlier supposed to have cricketers as contestants but now male celebrities from differen walks of including, actors Dino Morea, Rahul Bose, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Karan Singh Grover, filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor, car racer Armaan Ebrahem and squash champion Ritwik Bhattacharya, are see doing daredevil stunts in it.

Ekta Kapoor upset with 'Pavitra Rishta' crew

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) TV czarina Ekta Kapoor, who is known for her strictness, went fuming when on a surprise visit to the sets of her popular Zee TV show "Pavitra Rishta" she found the crew working mindlessly on the storyline.

Ekta was upset on finding out that her team was busy making her lead protagonists Manav and Archana rehearse for a dance sequence together even though the current track of the show has the two facing difficult times, said a source from the sets.

The dance sequence was being shot for a two-hour Ganesh Chaturthi special episode, to be aired Monday.

Ekta was quick to express displeasure at the dance sequence, and said: "There has to be a thread of continuity and consistency in the plot even if a festive celebration comes up. The current track shows a growing distance between Manav and Archana. I am not about to make things frivolous by throwing in a dance number for the heck of it."

However, her team explained that the dance act was planned on public demand. Besides, the actors, Sushant Rajput and Ankita Lokhande had spent nearly three days getting the choreography right.

Finally Ekta, who is the head honcho of Balaji Telefilms, agreed to retain the act but brainstormed herself for a twist to fit the dance sequence in the storyline.

"Ekta had a problem with Manav and Archana dancing together, but she suggested that they can always dance in a dream," said the source.

That wasn't the only issue faced by the team while shooting the special episode.

Lead actress Ankita created quite a fuss over her costume for the dance sequence.

On the final day of shoot, when her stylist brought in her costume, she felt they weren't dignified enough for her character Archana - a simple and demure girl.

Her lehenga had an extra-long slit, the blouse was low-cut and the corset revealed her midriff. So, the actress gave her stylist a tough time until she was absolutely comfortable with her dress.

"My character Archana is a role model for thousands of women across the country. She is the ideal wife, daughter and bahu (daughter-in-law). The last thing I would want is for people to see me doing an item number. The clothes brought on the sets were far from aesthetic and tasteful. So I put my foot down and got the changes I needed. If that ruffles somebody's feathers, too bad," said Ankita.

Mumbai, Sep 17 (IANS) Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal's daughters love watching him perform on "Jailhouse Rock" on their dinning table and he happily obliges them.

But his wife Mehr is worried the dining table might give way.

"Not to worry. It's a sturdy table. It's not going anywhere," said the actor, who is appreciated for his performance in "We Are Family" where he danced with his co-stars Kajol and Kareena in the Bollwood version of "Jailhouse Rock".

"My parents were huge Elvis Presley fans. I grew up on Presley. So when I got a chance to dance to 'Jailhouse Rock' in my latest film, I jumped at it," he added.

Arjun also plans to go on stage for a rock concert, hopefully with his "Rock On" team, if not then alone.

"I do have a craving to go live. And after 'Rock On!!', I can play the guitar. My fan following as a rock star has already started. My two daughters love me performing on the dining table," he said.

Apparently the model-turned-actor has been urging the "Rock On" gang to do an encore, but the script has to be cracked. "We're waiting for the right idea."

Arjun was very impressed with Siddharth Malhotra's clarity of thought regarding the remake of "Stepmom".

"In the original, I thought the husband's character played by Ed Harris was very restricted and irresponsible. I remember, I had seen 'Stepmom' with my mom when it had released in 1998. I remember I didn't want to see it. I wanted to go for a football match."

He says that for his role in "We Are Family", he used his real life eperiences.

"I picked up a lot of my emotions in 'We Are Family' from the way I behave with my daughters. I throw my daughters around, just like my screen daughters in 'We Are Family'."

There is no grievance about Kajol and Kareena being called the two heroes of "We Are Family".

"The only hero at the end of the day is the film. The actors are participants. It is a good actor's responsibility to put aside his insecurities and work as team with the cast. Every actor should be good for a film to work."

Arjun, who is also doing Shah Rukh Khan's home production "Ra.One", dismisses talk of a rift with the superstar.

"I don't know when we were fighting that we needed to patch up. I don't want to discuss my friendships. It's sad what people try to do to good relationships in this industry. I really don't care a damn what people say. I know where we stand.

"When we're working together, we are going there as professional actors, not as opponents in a boxing ring. What I really admire about Shah Rukh is he always looks at the larger picture. He contributes actively not only to his movies, but also to the entertainment industry. The responsibility is tremendous," he said.

Arjun also refutes reports of Karan Johar directing a part of "Ra.One". "That is not true at all. 'Ra.One' is Shah Rukh's most ambitious project. He just wanted Karan to come to London and roll the camera for one shot. The film's director is Anubhav Sinha. And I think it's very wrong of people to say he is not."

Directed by debutant director Rajeev Virani and produced by Sanjay Ahluwalia, the movie was shot in Mauritius.

Both Bobby and Mugdha are satisfied and pleased with the way the movie has turned out. Bobby says, “The film has been beautifully shot and must say it’s the finest horror that one will see. It’s immensely gruesome and a kind of horror, which gives you goosebumps. Help will take horror to another level.”

Mugdha, too, is excited to be a part of a horror flick. She says, “I have done glamorous roles and de-glam roles in the past. But this is like a role of a lifetime and I had to prepare real hard. My character had to be really authenticated and to admit, it was a painful experience too. Then the makeup was such that it gave me jitters. The prosthetic makeup has been done by Vikram Gaikwad, who has done makeup for films like 3 Idiots, Kaminey, Ishqiya, Delhi 6, etc.’’

Mandira Bedi shot to fame with her noodle straps and sexy looks as the cricket presenter with noted cricket analyst Charu Sharma. She then went on for a cropped look and though her fans have liked this image of hers, she has now expressed her desire to grow her hair and to look like a girl.

‘I have experimented a lot with my looks. Now I want to grow my hair and want to look like a girl. Growing hair will surely take some time,’ Mandira while talking to reporters after walking the ramp as a showstopper at the sixth edition of the Seagram’s Blenders Pride Fashion Tour in Kolkata.

Mandira said whenever her husband introduces her to friends ‘he says meet my ‘chota bhai’ (younger brother)’.

‘That is the reason I want to grow my hair and look like a girl,’ added Mandira.

Katrina Kaif to get raunchy with ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’

Katrina Kaif is already the heartthrob of millions of hearts out there and this time she has gone a step further to ensure that there is not one man left who doesn’t skip his beat as she gyrates on the modern version of the 1991 hit song “Jumma Chumma De De’ that was originally picturized on Big B and Kimi Katkar.

Katrina is doing this item number ‘Sheela Ki Jawani’ for Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’ and as she plays an item girl in the film and Farah wanted nothing but the best for this dance number. Speaking about this special song, Farah says, “Sheela Ki Jawani is a special item number with a never before seen feel to it. There are six different set-ups in the song and Katrina will be seen in 6 different looks. In the last sequence of the song, I wanted a rustic bar setting where you’ll see Katrina surrounded by men holding beer-mugs and splashing water on her something similar to the famous ‘Jumma Chumma’ song in Hum. Another part of the song is a tribute the musical Chicago. The song itself is a mix of Bhojpuri meets Bob Fosse if you can imagine what I am saying.”

“What I wanted for this song was to keep Katrina’ s look rustic and have a backdrop like that of a Broadway musical. So it’s both raunchy yet classy and believe me, Katrina has never done anything like this before. She has really worked hard to get into shape for this number and the results have to be seen to be believed,” she adds.

The double bonanza from ‘ANDpersand’ latest issue

The latest issue of ANDpersand has double bonanza for its readers as it lays two Kanganas and two of the Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez each. Kangana Ranaut speaks out her mind to the magazine saying that she has not gone under knife to enhance her assets but does not find anything wrong for the people who do it.

“People have the right to live the way they want. If they want to go under the knife or take extravagant measures to beautify themselves, it’s their choice,” she told ANDpersand. “But as far as I am concerned, I would never go under the knife to beautify myself. I am beautiful,” she says. That she is beautiful, we have no doubts whatsoever.

Revealing more about herself, Ranaut adds, “I started when I was 17 so I feel people know more about me than myself. Well, let’s see…Kangna is like any other regular girl. I like appreciation. I dislike people acting ‘extra’ smart with me. I like spending time with my family. I like cooking and have taken cooking classes.”

Andpersand executive editor Jayita Bandyopadhyay recalls her experience of working with Kangana saying, “Frail and waif-like are the two terms which rushed to my mind when Kangna walked into the studio for the shoot, accompanied by her mother, and of all surprises, her nani. Maybe a reason why she was looking so frail was that she was very unwell. But her mom and nani made sure she avoided cold drinks, even cooler water! While Kangna shot, nani waited patiently, with a pack of chips.”

More of Salman-Sonakshi chemistry to hit the screens

There is no denying the fact that the success of ‘Dabangg’ has made Salman-Sonakshi the most sought after pair of Bollywood. Even the producer Sajid Nadiadwala was so impressed by their chemistry that he drove down to the Sinhas’ bungalow to sign Sonakshi opposite Salman in the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster ‘Kick’ which
will be made under the direction of Shirish Kunder and will go on floors this winter.

Confirming the news, Sajid Nadiadwala says, “It was Salman who was very keen that I sign Sonakshi opposite him in Kick. I became a hundred percent sure of her after I saw her in Dabangg. She and Salman make a great pair.

I am very happy to be working with Shatruji’s daughter. He has worked extensively for my banner. In fact I’ve a picture at home with Shatruji when he was shooting for our banner in Bhai Ho To Aisa. I was 6 at that time.”

Says Sajid emotionally, “This is the first time I’ve gone to someone’s house to sign an actor. Everyone comes to my office. But Sonakshi is Shatrughan Sinhaji’s daughter.”

Shatughan Sinha, too, shares his respect for Sajid saying, “I told Sonakshi that I’ve worked wth Sajid’s grandfather and father. Now it’s her turn to continue the tradition. God willing my sons too will work with Sajid.”

Incidentally this is Sonakshi’s third film with Salman. She is already doing the sequel to Dabangg with the star.

Bollywood stars shower blessings on parents-to-be Dutts

Manyata Dutt is expecting twins in January and a host of Bollywood stars came in to wish the parents-to-be luck and to shower their blessings on the family. Ameesha Patel played the perfect host to Manyata Dutt’s baby shower. This star-studded affair included the likes of Sophie Choudhary, Neha Oberoi, Vidya, Krishika Lulla, Sheeba, Malaika Khan, Shilpa and Raj Kundra, Maana Shetty, and Jaya Prada. The party also saw the re-union of Sanjay and Manyata Dutt with sisters-in-laws Priya Dutt and Namrata Dutt who were present at the party.

The film ‘We Are Family’ is a remake of a Hollywood flick,STEPMOM. Maximum of the audience, after watching the film liked Kareena’s performance over Kajol. They felt Kareena’s charm was visible all over, sidelining Kajol completely.

Rumour has it that Kareena has been opted for Ajay Devgan’s second directorial venture which he’s likely to announce very soon.
Ajay Devgan chose Kareena instead of Kajol as they rocked together in Omkara abd so Ajay wants to recreate that magic with his second directorial venture. The two will alsobe seen together in Ashtavinayak’s Golmaal Returns which is set for release later this year.

Salman Khan has always been into some or the other controversy, his most recent one being his relationship with Katrina Kaif.
The superstar is disturbed and wonders, why the media is making such a big commotion over a pity issue this this.

“There are so many other problems affecting people in the country, why is Salman-Katrina relationship national news? I am not giving any clarifications, the media can write whatever it wants. It is my personal life, if people want to know, they will have to wait and watch,” Sallu said recently in an interview with India TV.

Speaking about his equation with Shahrukh Khan, Sallu said, “I have a lot of respect for Shah Rukh as an actor. We shared some good times playing brothers in ‘Karan Arjun’. There is no clash between us, but some misunderstandings crop up time and again,”.

Salman Khan, who once dated Aishwary Rai, for few years said he is very happy for her and is glad she is living a happy married life.

“I am very happy she is married to Abhishek. He is a great guy from a good family. The best thing I can want for her is that she leads a happy life,” he said.

Aishwarya designs her own wardrobe for ‘Robot’…

Aishwarya Rai is one style diva, who leaves the onlookers ogling at her fashion styles.

It is heard that she has given a lot of inputs in designing her own dresses for her character in the film Robot or Endhiran (in Tamil).

Director Shankar acknowledges the contribution of Ash.

“Aishwarya plays a modern girl in the film, in the songs we have presented her in a never-seen avatar. I know she applied a lot of thought in designing her own wardrobe,” said Shankar.

The film is set to release on September 24. It is the most expensive film produced in India, made on a whopping budget of Rs. 190 crores.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar spends his 43rd Birthday with his wife Twinkle Khanna and son Aarav today.

“I’ll be celebrating my birthday with my family. We’ll be going out to a nice place to eat. I work to live life to the fullest. So hoping to spend some nice time with my family,” Akshay told reporters in Mumbai.

Akshay has been shooting Farah Khan’s film Tees Maar Khan with Katrina Kaif. .

Akshay is mainly known for his comedy and stunts. He is presently hosting and judging the telly show ‘Master Chef India’. For those who don’t know, before Akshay became an actor (in early 1990s) he used to work as a chef in Bangkok.
